One night I was doom scrolling and stumbled on a paranormal influencer talking about the three water signs who can feel or see the paranormal. My sign, Cancer, made the list. Scorpio and Pisces rounded it out. Honestly? It all made sense.
Cancers are the most sensitive sign in the zodiac, and I don’t just mean emotionally. Sensitivity is deep processing. It’s a stronger sensory awareness. Our nervous systems pick up on small details, shifts in energy, sensory input that other people walk right past.
I’ve always been curious about the afterlife. And I have my own paranormal experiences to prove it.
The First One I Don’t Even Remember
My mother told me about this one. Shortly after my father passed away, I apparently saw his spirit sitting in an armchair, talking to me like nothing had changed. I don’t remember it myself. But I remember everything that came after.
The Shadow Figure and the Laundry Chute House
I was about 8 or 9. My mom and I were living in a house with a genuinely creepy basement and, weirdly, a really cool laundry chute. If you’ve never seen one, they’re incredibly convenient. Here’s what one looks like:
That house gave me the creeps on a regular basis. One night I went to bed in my own room and somehow woke up in my mother’s bed. That happened three nights in a row.
On the third night, I woke up in her bed again, but late. I got up, opened the bedroom door, and there it was. A tall dark shadow figure standing right in front of me. It didn’t move. It didn’t speak. The energy coming off it was terrifying, and for a second I genuinely tried to convince myself I was dreaming. I wasn’t.
That’s when I understood why cartoons draw characters going pale with their hair standing straight up. That’s exactly how it felt. I bolted back to my mom’s bed and hid under the covers, panicking.
It haunted me for a while. But oddly, I kept waking up back in my own bed after that, and I never saw the shadow figure again. I did, however, start sleeping with a nightlight or the TV on for a long time after.
My Grandfather’s Cologne
This one was much gentler. I was in my late teens when my grandfather passed away. Before that, he’d lived with my mom and me while we took care of him.
He was protective in a specific way. Every day, he’d walk to the study near the front of the house and peek through the blinds to keep watch. After he died, I would sometimes catch the smell of his cologne in that exact spot. Like he was still doing his rounds.
What the Research Says
According to The India Times, Cancer is a water sign tied to hidden feelings and the unseen world. We’re less likely to see a full apparition and more likely to feel a presence or notice a shift in a room’s energy. Cancers are thought to be especially open to sensing the comforting presence of loved ones who’ve passed, rather than something frightening.
On the science side, there’s no actual proof that any zodiac sign can see or sense ghosts. Belief in the paranormal tends to come down to personal experience, environmental factors like low-frequency sound, or just a highly imaginative and open mind.
Where I Land
I believe in ghosts, based on what I’ve lived through. I just prefer to call them spirits. Some are good. Some aren’t. And most of what we believe comes from personal experience, the kind science hasn’t figured out how to debunk yet.
