The Coddling Myths About Men That Are Just BS

Welcome to another episode of addressing drone behavior. Today we’re debunking the myths society keeps recycling about men. The idea that grown men are somehow incapable of basic human functioning without a woman standing behind them managing their lives. Let’s get into it.

Myth: Men Don’t Memorize Dates

False. Men memorize what matters to THEM.

They know their favorite team’s entire schedule down to the bye week. They’ve had the release date for the new Grand Theft Auto circled for months, sometimes years, ever since the first trailer dropped. Ask a man when the game drops and he’ll tell you the exact day, sometimes the exact hour of the midnight release, and he probably already requested that day off work.

Same man will “forget” your anniversary, your birthday, or the date you told him twice that his mother is coming to visit. Not because his brain can’t hold dates. Because holding your dates was never a priority. He has calendar alerts for the season premiere of a show. He has none for your OB appointment.

The memory works fine. The motivation is what’s missing. If it’s important to him, he remembers it. Period.

Myth: Men Don’t Plan

Men have the two As: the agenda and the audacity.

They plan constantly, just selectively. A man will plan an entire date around the expectation of sex afterward, down to the restaurant that sets the right mood and the timing of when to invite you back to his place. He’ll plan a fight over something petty so he has an excuse to storm out and go be with someone else. He’ll plan a “break” specifically so he can link up with the girl he’s been eyeing, timing it around a trip or a slow week at work so it looks convenient instead of calculated. He’ll plan how to lower your guard, love bombing you first, then testing what he can get away with, so he can lie, cheat, steal, or worse, without you seeing it coming.

Even serial killers plan their kills down to the detail, scouting locations and studying patterns for months. So no, the planning ability was never the problem. He plans when the plan benefits him. That’s it.

Myth: Men Can’t Handle Domestic Chores

They can. They just don’t want to.

A lot of this traces back to how they were raised. Coddled by parents who let him believe cleaning up after himself was a woman’s job instead of a basic adult skill everyone needs to survive on their own. Ask a man to help around the house and watch him gravitate straight to the “manly” chores: taking out the trash, mowing the lawn, maybe grilling. Ask him to handle a “female” chore, laundry, dishes, scrubbing a bathroom, and suddenly he can’t do it right. The whites turn pink. The dishes come out with food still stuck on them. The bathroom “gets cleaned” but somehow still smells. That’s not incompetence. That’s weaponized incompetence, and it’s a strategy, not an accident. Do it badly enough and eventually she stops asking and just does it herself.

And if a grown man lives alone and his place is filthy? Dishes piled up, laundry on the floor, dust everywhere? That’s not a red flag. That’s a full stop sign. Run. That’s a preview of what your life looks like once he stops trying to impress you.

Myth: Men Don’t Cook

We have male chefs. Half the kitchens on the Food Network are run by men. Next.

Myth: Men Can’t Multitask

They drive and talk on the phone at the same time. They watch TV, scroll their phone, and hold a conversation without missing a beat, same as anyone else. They can play a video game while arguing with you about the video game. The research backs it up too: no significant gender gap in multitasking ability actually exists. This one was never true. It was just a convenient excuse to hand off the mental load of remembering appointments, birthdays, and who needs what, while claiming his brain “just isn’t built for it.”

The pattern here isn’t a lack of ability. It’s a lack of incentive, propped up by a lifetime of being let off the hook. Stop confusing “won’t” with “can’t.”
