Sorry, I’m Not Doing “Hating Mondays” This Year

Why does Monday have to suck?

Actually, scratch that. Why does Monday have to suck at all?

I’m sure you’ve heard all the obvious answers: it’s the beginning of the work week (no shit), cue the Sunday scaries, and so on. Trust me, I get it. I’ve been there. But this year, I don’t plan to stay there.

After experiencing thousands of Mondays through school, work, and even a layoff, I’ve realized something: Monday is, at its core, just another day. The real question is: how do we stop treating it like one?

I truly believe a good day is shaped by what you make of it. Yes, most of us have to work to pay bills and survive adulthood. But beyond work, what are you doing with your time? And if you’re unemployed as I was last year, what are you doing besides applying for jobs, networking, getting ghosted, and watching employers waste your time?

Time is precious, and life is short. I refuse to look back and say my Monday was spent only going to work. So I’m choosing to make Mondays feel more alive. I’m going to try different local cafés and explore their menu items before work. After work, I’ll attend Monday evening events in person or online that genuinely interest me. And if I’m too tired? Then I’ll rest, write to you fine people, and sleep without guilt.

Maybe Monday doesn’t have to be the day we dread. Maybe it can become a day we reclaim.
